Why is Cryptocurrency so difficult to buy?

The other day I wanted to invest in some crypto currency and I searched up a video on how to buy some. 23 minutes into the video I am contemplating why am I still here, why is something so talked about so difficult to buy compared to using Paypal or Venmo. It is currently a hot topic and in conversations but why is purchasing different cryptocurrencies, especially lesser known ones, so time consuming and painful.
